Volunteer

The Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand is part of a nationwide and local effort to assure the protection of children from abuse and exploitation. Therefore, in order to safeguard the wellbeing of the youth we serve, the Boys & Girls of the Grand Strand will investigate the background of all staff and volunteers who have recurring exposure to club members. This investigation may include, but is not limited to; criminal history, child abuse history and driving record. The background check will be processed annually through your length of service.

I authorize the Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand to conduct a criminal, child abuse and Department of Motor Vehicle check annually.

I wish to donate my time to the BGCGS. I will abide by all BGC policies and programming guidelines. If students are under my supervision, I will enforce all club rules and immediately relate any discipline problems and/or injuries to the immediate staff member or Program Director. Furthermore, I understand that the BGCGS will conduct a background check of my criminal record and sex offender status if I volunteer more than once to ensure the safety and protection of the children that the BGC serves. I understand that before the aforementioned parties may conduct this search, I must first sign a “Background Check Consent Form” and that my failure to do so may result in my termination from serving the BGC. I understand I have a right to explain any incidents that appear in my record before I may be denied or dismissed from service.

I understand and agree to strictly abide by the BGCGS’s Confidentiality and Mandatory Reporting policies. I understand that a failure to adhere to these policies may result in my removal from participation in the program and possible termination from service. I understand and agree to strictly abide by the BGCGS’s policy regarding alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and firearms. I understand that a failure to adhere to these policies will result in my termination from service. I am aware that participation as a volunteer may require the following: heavy lifting, standing for long periods, running, using sharp objects and more; these actions will require the exercise of reasonable care to avoid injury. I am voluntarily participating in this activity with knowledge of the hazards and potential dangers involved and agree to accept any and all risks of personal injury and property damage. I WILL NOT hold either the BGCGS or any of its members, volunteers, or employees responsible for any harm that may result from my participation in their Volunteer Program. Furthermore, I understand that if I am injured in the course of BGCGS service I am not covered by the BGCGS’s worker’s compensation program. I authorize the BGCGS to seek emergency medical treatment on my behalf in case of accident, illness, or injury arising from my involvement as a volunteer. I understand I am responsible for any medical costs incurred by such accident, illness, or injury.

I understand I will not be compensated for any time spent volunteering, nor am I entitled to benefits including employment insurance benefits upon the termination of this agreement or as a result of this service. I agree to follow the supervision and direction of BGCGS employees and to participate in any training or orientation required by the BGCGS in order to perform my duties. I understand if I am responsible for injuries to third parties or damages to their property while acting outside the scope of my assigned duties, I may be held personally liable for any monetary damages a court may award to the injured party. I understand tools and materials provided by the BGCGS are to remain the property of the BGCGS and I agree to return these tools and any remaining materials to the BGCGS at the conclusion of my volunteer service.

I agree to fully cooperate with the BGCGS and its agents in any investigation, lawsuit, arbitration or any other legal proceeding that arise from matters covered by this agreement. I agree to notify BGCGS immediately of any indecent that occurs or may occur within my knowledge which gives rise to liability on the part of the BGCGS or myself. I hereby agree I and my assignees, heirs, guardians, and legal representatives will not make a claim against or sue BGCGS or its employees, volunteers, agents, guests, or contractors for injury or damage resulting from the negligence, whether active or passive, caused by any of its aforementioned parties as a result of my volunteering. I hereby release and discharge the BGCGS and its officers, employees, agents, guests, and contractors from all actions, claims, or demands that I, my heirs, guardians, and legal representation now have or may have in the future for injury or damage resulting from my service with the BGCGS.

I understand that as a volunteer, I make a difference at the Boys & Girls Club and in the lives of the members. Because of this, I agree to uphold the schedule that I have committed to. If I am unable to attend at my scheduled time for any reason, I will notify the Office Manager as soon as possible. I commit to being an engaged member of the Club community in order to make a difference. I also understand that if I fail to uphold my volunteer schedule, the Club may give my volunteer spot to someone else.

With my signature, I agree to the terms stated above and attest that all information in this handbook is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. I understand that I am not covered by Club Insurance and may be removed and/or reassigned from my volunteer status at any time by a BGCGS official. I have carefully read this agreement and fully understand its contents. I am aware that this is an agreement of compliance, an acknowledgement of understanding, as well as a release of liability, and sign this document of my own free will.
